1. Edinburgh is a Walkable City

Because Edinburgh is a small city, getting around without a car is incredibly simple — you can walk almost everywhere! You are never more than a few minutes away from stores, parks, and city attractions, regardless of where you choose to live.

Edinburgh’s public transportation is excellent if you need to travel further, with frequent and dependable buses and trams in addition to apps that let you plan your route down to the minute.

In contrast to cities that heavily rely on the busiest travel times of the year, Edinburgh is always busy. Therefore, there are plenty of jobs in Edinburgh even during the slow tourist season. The best move for your future employment prospects is moving to Edinburgh.

In Edinburgh, there are numerous opportunities for part-time, full-time, and seasonal employment in a variety of industries, including retail, hospitality, and other jobs.

4. You’ll Meet New People

Although you’ll find friendly locals all over Scotland, Edinburgh is especially welcoming and offers lots of chances to meet new people. You need not worry about being lonely for too long if you are moving to Edinburgh alone. You’ll never feel lonely if you make friends with your coworkers, join socializing groups, or participate in pub quizzes.

You will have many opportunities to meet people from your home country because Edinburgh is a city populated by foreigners from all over the world. Are you missing home? Connect with people from your country at a local meetup! Being a foreigner living in Edinburgh is a wonderful experience!

5. Vegetarian restaurants in Edinburgh Make Eating Well Simple

There are numerous healthy eateries in Edinburgh that serve everything from organic food and juices to vegetarian and vegan dishes from various cultures. The abundance of healthy options in Edinburgh supermarkets, along with the variety of wholesome takeout options, makes maintaining a healthy lifestyle a breeze.

I suggest visiting Union of Genius, Henderson’s Vegan Restaurant, and the Hula Juice Bar & Café if you’re looking for some really fantastic healthy restaurants in Edinburgh. Do you know of a wonderful, healthy restaurant in Edinburgh that I missed? Comment below with details and let me know!

6. You Can Get into the Best Shape of your Life

Edinburgh is not only a great city for exercising, but also for eating healthily. Since Edinburgh is a walkable city, getting around on foot keeps you in great shape. One of the best aspects of moving to Edinburgh was this! I felt incredibly healthy as a result.

Edinburgh has a ton of fantastic parks, trails, and hills (like Arthur’s Seat and the Pentland Hills), which will not only challenge you but also keep you in great physical shape and make for a great day out. In addition to walking everywhere.

7. Edinburgh Has a Lot of Filming Locations

Many films and television programs are filmed in and around Edinburgh. It’s incredibly simple to travel to filming locations and see the actual locations where your favorite scenes were filmed. You can go to all of them, including “The Da Vinci Code,” “Trainspotting,” and “Outlander.”

8. Festival Fringe in Edinburgh

Edinburgh really is a city of festivals. The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is the biggest and most well-known of the numerous festivals that visit Edinburgh each year.

The city is inundated with tourists and the extraordinary talent that turns Edinburgh into an amazing extravaganza during the month-long theatrical event. One of the biggest and best reasons to visit Edinburgh is the Festival Fringe.

9. The City of Edinburgh Was Built on History

If you enjoy history, Edinburgh is even more amazing because it is so rich in it. The city, which has a population that goes back several hundred years, is filled with historical landmarks and oozes history at every turn.

From a medieval castle, the Royal Mile descends to the plague-ridden Mary King’s Close. You’ll fall in love with history because the city is filled with so many historical sites.

10. Amazing Places to Call Home

Edinburgh is a great place to live! There are many hip places to live there, including fully furnished apartments where you can live alone or shared apartments where you can rent a room.

Edinburgh has its benefits and drawbacks because housing costs vary greatly depending on where you live in the city. I advise choosing a room in a shared apartment with individuals from Scotland or from anywhere else in the world. The cost is much less, and you never know—your flatmates might end up being some of your closest friends! One of the best reasons for you to relocate to Edinburgh is unquestionably this.

11. Harry Potter sites in Edinburgh, which were inspired by Edinburgh

One of the many Harry Potter locations in Edinburgh is the Elephant House.

The world-famous writers Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Robert Louis Stevenson, and Ian Rankin all call Edinburgh their home. The capital is renowned for being the location of Harry Potter’s birth, according to J.K. Rowling.

Numerous locations throughout the city served as inspiration for the boy wizard books that won over readers from all over the world.

12. Sweater weather always

Everyone enjoys “sweater weather,” right? The best time of the year has arrived! Although Edinburgh does experience some extremely hot and muggy days during the summer, for the most part the windy, wet city is the ideal temperature to don your favorite hoodie.

13. The Night Scene in Edinburgh is Stunning

Whatever your interests, Edinburgh has a great nightlife. The quiet bars where I could chat with friends over cider were my personal favorites. If that’s not your style, Edinburgh is filled with vibrant bars that play music and serve the best vodka cocktails!

Edinburgh has it all, from haunted pubs to jazz bars to one of the smallest pubs in Scotland.

14. The Best Retail Locations

I say this as someone who despises shopping. So you can be sure that Edinburgh’s stores are top-notch. There are a lot of really cool and distinctive stores you can check out, but Armstrong’s Vintage – W. Armstrong & Son is one of the best. Even if you don’t intend to purchase anything, I strongly suggest taking a look.

Edinburgh also has a number of upscale boutiques, unique stores, and a ton of gift shops where you can buy tacky presents for your loved ones back home.

15. Edinburgh Castle, a Castle in the Heart of the City

Who wouldn’t want to live somewhere with a castle perched atop a dormant volcano, towering over the city? So now you have even more justification to relocate to Edinburgh! The sight of Edinburgh Castle is impressive, and the one o’clock gun’s bang will always startle you.

If you’d like to experience what it was like to live in a castle, you can visit Edinburgh Castle, which is open to the public. You can also get a close-up view of the one o’clock gun!

16. The Ghostliest City in Scotland

Due to its age, Edinburgh has a long and troubled past. The Great Scottish Witch Hunt of 1597 and the heinous murders carried out by some of the most gruesome serial killers in the history of the world have both occurred in the capital.

Due to this history, there are many haunted locations, including a graveyard that is horrifyingly haunted and a network of underground vaults.

17. Abounding Museums and Art Galleries

Because Edinburgh’s museums and art galleries are so extensive and varied, it’s simple to spend an entire day visiting just one of them. You can explore more than 8,000 items at the National Museum of Scotland alone!

18. Tons of Free Activities

Want to visit all of Edinburgh’s museums and galleries without breaking the bank? The incredible accessibility to free places to visit is one of the reasons you should relocate to Edinburgh! Edinburgh offers a ton of amazing free activities, including a number of museums, art galleries, cathedrals, and gardens.

19. Simple Nature Access

Edinburgh has some of Scotland’s best parks, trails, and hills, so there is always access to lovely greenery nearby. Take a stroll through the Meadows, the Water of Leith, or the lovely (and cost-free) Royal Botanic Gardens.

20. Edinburgh University, one of Scotland’s Best Universities

Instead of writing about being a student, I write about working abroad. However, everything in this post is appropriate for anyone looking for reasons to relocate to Edinburgh, including students.

Some of the best universities in the UK are located in Edinburgh. I won’t undersell Glasgow, though, because it also has top-notch colleges that anyone would be proud to attend. However, Glasgow is not the topic of this article. Return to Edinburgh!

21. North Berwick Day Trips Are Amazing

Even though Edinburgh is lovely, you can take a day trip to some of the impressive nearby locations. The lovely coastal town of North Berwick, which is one of the best locations nearby Edinburgh and one of my personal favorites, is where you can see adorable puffins and other seabirds.

22. Edinburgh is a Beautiful City

Edinburgh is a historic city and is home to some of the most amazing buildings in the entire world. Take a stroll through a historic area close to the Old Town to see stunning Gothic and Georgian buildings.

23. The City of Edinburgh Is Very Safe

In the UK, Edinburgh has the lowest reported crime rate. I spent a few years living in Edinburgh and was out and about at all hours of the day and night; I never felt unsafe. When considering the factors that led to your decision, you should keep safety in mind.
