The 7 Best Concert Venues in Munich Germany
There are concert halls in Munich for every kind of music, from classical orchestras to grime nights in a former powerhouse. Travel Pixy has put together a list of the best venues where you can see a wide range of artists. Check their websites for the latest concerts, and make sure to buy tickets ahead of time, since this city is full of music fans.
Muffatwerke
In 2006, this old power station was turned into a place for concerts. It was a huge success from the start because it was all about big hip-hop, Drum’n’Bass, and DJ nights. Now, the schedule is even more varied, with musical acts like the Sugarhill Gang and Joy Denalane performing on the bare stage, along with the popular poetry slam nights. Muffatwerke is also big on getting people from different art forms to work together, especially in music and dance. You’re sure to find something you like with up to six gigs a week.

Backstage
Backstage is your best bet if you want something with more edge. Since it opened 26 years ago, the venue has been at the center of Munich’s alternative rock scene. Because of how well-known it is, rock bands from all over the world now come to play there. But the party doesn’t end after the encores. Most concerts have an afterparty, and Backstage has weekly dance parties every Thursday and Friday that are free with a concert ticket.

Gasteig
Place for music, Hall, Building
The Gasteig is a concert hall and cultural center that sits on the banks of the River Isar. It has five different-sized concert halls that can hold up to 3,500 people. It is also home to the Volkshochschule, Munich’s adult education center, and the city’s large library. It is also where the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra is based, and the main hall, which has an organ, is where the orchestra plays concerts regularly. With more than 1,700 different events every year, you’re sure to find the perfect show.

Olympiahalle
Park, Opera House
The wavy roofs of Olympic Park are hard to miss. They were built as part of the facilities for the 1972 Olympics. After more than 40 years, the place has become one of the best places in Munich to see concerts. It can hold up to 15,500 people, making it Munich’s largest concert hall. Big international artists from all over the world perform there. If you want to see well-known artists, this is the place to look. Olympiahalle is also where big sports events like motorbike stunt riding and showjumping take place.

Zenith
This building used to be a place where trains were fixed. To call it “industrial” is kind of a stretch. Inside Zenith, there is a huge open space that doesn’t sound very good. The bad thing is that to make up for it, they turn the music up really loud, and in the winter, it can get pretty cold in there! Also, there are no seats, but for a real concert, who needs them? The good thing is that you won’t feel squished and like there’s no room to dance. There’s plenty of room, and you won’t miss a note even if you have to go to the bathroom.

Theaterfabrik
Theaterfabrik is the place to go if you like concerts that feel like a party. It is best known for its club nights, but top German and international acts like Black Stone Cherry and Miyavi also play there. Around 1,000 people can stand there, so it can be a good way to get close to some big names. On the other hand, the space is smaller and the ceilings are lower, so it can get very hot inside. Make sure to check any coats before the show starts.

Jazzclub Unterfahrt
The Unterfahrt is probably the most well-known place to see live music in Munich. It is the center of the city’s jazz scene. It was started in a train tunnel, and its new home in a huge former beer cellar on Einsteinstraße is just as interesting. This award-winning venue has had seven concerts a week for more than 20 years, and some of the most cutting-edge jazz musicians and groups play there. There are many different styles, but the main focus is on modern jazz. Concerts start at 9 p.m., and you can buy a ticket at the door, but you should make a reservation in advance to get the best seats in the middle!
