Ski Centre Sandyford, Sandyford, Dublin

There is a dry ski slope at Sandyford, Dublin that is accessible to guests throughout the year. The facility runs two carpeted dry slopes which are sloped and remote operated, offering for an unusual experience. Similar to a treadmill it replicates a skiing experience utilizing a spinning carpeted surface and users may grasp onto a side railing or make use of mirrors to enhance their skiing skill.

While the foregoing seems like the center is designed for novices only professional skiers also make regular use of the centre for stamina and fitness, being able to mimic an unending slope and altering the difficulty level.

Exclude ski in ireland

Have you been overdosing on alpine sports from the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang? Maybe all that snow on the TV has got you craving for some time on the slopes of your own? Well, there’s some fantastic skiing and snowboarding sites in Europe, of course, but even closer to home you may improve your alpine talents, as well.

The Emerald Isle may not be famed for its winter sports possibilities, but Irish skiing and snowboarding aficionados can save the air fare and hit the slopes in their home nation at one of two places. With a strong domestic scene and inexpensive costs, there are plenty of reasons to test out some spots to ski in Ireland before traveling farther abroad.

DRY SLOPES IN KILTERNAN

The Ski Club of Ireland maintains the only dry slopes in the nation, out of Kilternan in County Dublin. Located roughly 45 minutes from the city by vehicle, the facility has been operational for 35 years and has welcomed well over 100,000 skiing and snowboarding lovers through its doors in that time.

Run by a staff of 150 committed volunteers, the club is a not-for-profit organisation which conducts tournaments, workshops and occasional international trips throughout the year — already in 2018 they have done excursions to Courchevel in France and Zell Am See in Austria.

As for the site itself, it provides four separate slopes. There is the 180m main slope, a 150m medium slope and two 50m nursery slopes for the smaller ones. Open to members throughout the year, lessons are only accessible between September and March.

A NEW SKIING AND SNOWBOARDING EXPERIENCE IN THE CAPITAL

While the geography of Ireland may not necessarily lend itself to alpine sports, the brilliant boffins over in Dublin have come up with an excellent means of training your skiing or snowboarding talents inside! The all-new ski simulator at the Ski Centre Sandyford means you may avoid the frigid temperature and perfect your talents in a safe and pleasant setting.

The simulator employs advanced spinning slope technology to recreate real-life conditions observed on the slopes. With an instructor constantly on hand to change or halt the movement of the slope at any moment, it couldn’t be safer for small ones learning the sport for the first time or simpler for more experienced skiers and snowboarders to regulate their gradient and pace.

What’s more, the front-facing mirror enables you to see yourself how you’re doing in terms of balance and posture, delivering rapid and flawless feedback. And since it’s not based on weather conditions, it’s available year-round to all-comers of all ages and skills.

SEARCHING FOR PASTURES NEW

While there are plenty of opportunities to practice skiing and snowboarding in Ireland, more experienced enthusiasts will undoubtedly look overseas for more difficult slopes and a greater variety of choice. Austria, France, Switzerland and Italy are all fantastic alternatives in Europe, but farther afield there are unequaled possibilities to ski and snowboard in Whistler, Canada.

Wherever you choose to indulge your penchant for alpine sports like ski in ireland, don’t waste a second. Do it today!
