6 Easy Hikes on Oahu That Are Worth the Walk 2023
Even though Oahu has the most cities of all the Hawaiian Islands, its hiking trails are great. With just a short hike, you can see some of the most beautiful views, waterfalls, and tropical plants on the island. Here are some of Oahu’s most rewarding short hikes.
Crouching Lion Trail
Hiking Trail, Park

A half-mile unmarked trail leads up to a rock formation called the Crouching Lion, from which you can see a wide view of Kahana Bay. Even though the trail is short and goes straight up the mountain, it can be very dangerous and slippery after it rains. Many people have died on this trail, so hike in a group. Hikers can see all the way to Kahana Valley and a lot of the coast from the top.
Diamond Head Summit Trail
Hiking Trail, Natural Feature

From the top, people can see the sea cliffs and beaches to the left and the cities of Waikk and Honolulu to the right. Even though the trail is only 1.5 miles long, it goes through tunnels and up steep stairs to reach a set of bunkers on the edge of the volcano’s crater.
Kahuku Point to Turtle Bay Resort

This 2.5-mile walk starts at the Turtle Bay Resort parking lot and ends at Kahuku Point, which is the northernmost point on the island of Oahu. The trail is completely flat and good for kids. There are many places to swim, relax on a quiet beach, watch native birds nesting in the sand dunes, look for seashells in tide pools, or watch Hawaiian monk seals. From Turtle Bay Resort, you can connect to other trails or go west instead of east for a longer trip.
Makapuʻu Lighthouse Trail
Hiking Trail

The two-mile paved trail is part of the Kaiwi Scenic Shoreline. It goes up the most southeastern point of the island and looks out over the Makapu’u Point Lighthouse, which was built in 1909 and has the largest lens in the country. On a clear day, you can see humpback whales and the nearby islands of Moloka’i and Lana’i from the lookout.
Koko Crater Trail
Botanical Garden, Hiking Trail, Park

Hikers climb over a thousand wooden railway tracks that serve as steps to the top of this dormant volcanic crater so they can see how beautiful it is. Even though it’s less than two miles round-trip, this difficult uphill hike is only for people who want a serious workout. The fittest people can run up and down in about 20 minutes, but the spectacular panoramic views are well worth the effort. From above, you can see East Honolulu and Hanauma Bay. If you look down into the crater, you can see the Koko Crater Botanical Garden from a bird’s eye view.
Manoa Falls
Hiking Trail, Natural Feature

This easy 1.5-mile trail leads to the bottom of Manoa Valley and can be used by hikers of all skill levels. The path goes through a lush rainforest in Hawaii and ends up close to Manoa Falls.
